7 Inspiring Artists Websites

Minimal, marketing, just different - here are 7 beautiful artists’ websites to inspire you.

It’s hard to find great artists websites, and there’s a few reasons, I think. First, many artists focus so much on their art that they forget to update their websites - and so there are a lot of outdated and clunky artist’s websites out there with old content, hard to read small type, and low quality photos. Also, many artists think they are also talented web designers - these are 2 very different skills, actually - the same design principles that make a good landscape painting or an abstract sculpture or conceptual art - are not the same for a website. Moving text, lack of navigation - maybe the website itself is an artistic statement, but for the average website visitor who wants to view, and possibly buy art, these websites are lacking.

There are some good artist websites — a perfect balance of pragmatic and creative — here’s my favorites, based on 3 different categories, minimal, marketing, and just different. I’m always on the hunt for more, so if you have any suggestions, please mention them in the comments and explain why your think they work so well.

Minimal - an online solo show where art takes center stage

Jerry McLaughlin A painter whose minimalist website lets his art take center stage while still providing just enough context and text.

Banksy Simple, to-the-point, truthful, fun.

Jessica Chou - true minimalism, allowing her photography to speak for itself.

Marketing - an online store to browse and buy art

Paul Nicklen A mix of portfolio images, fine art prints and books, this conservation photographer presents his work for view and sale in a minimalist yet comprehensive style.

Kelly Rae Roberts - Online courses, art prints, a blog - this painter markets her art in many ways. The overall style is busy, but it’s well organized, enthusiastic and easy to follow.

Different - fun to explore
